I'm a die hard techno positivist, I grew up with Asimov's encyclopedias that talked about having space colonies in the 2020s and no poverty due to automation. I'm vegan, but adapt in circumstances where there is no vegan option. In my mind it is better, for example, to eat cheese than meat, since you need around 10x more cows to suffer to produce a ton of meat than a ton of cheese. Same with pet food: if the only "vegan" option would use, let's say, 5% of the animal products than a carnivore option, then that would be much better in my eyes. Still not completely vegan, but a better choice.

Thing is, humans choose to kill 20 to 60 billions (depending on your source) of animals every year for food. That's magnitudes more than what other animals kill. And even without taking that into account, you're missing a very important point: other animals don't have a choice whether to kill their prey for food. We do.

All those links state the same thing: cats are obligate carnivores, since they don't have some enzimes they can't metabolize some nutrients and must get them from meat directly. As pointed in the kibble I linked to above, vegan cat food **contains those nutrients**, so the cat will not have any deficiency.

That would be an interesting topic to research. I could also be that, if they derive it from animals, maybe they need less meat than if they entire kibble was animal-based?

They're not the same, but I'm pretty sure that you can remove that fan without removing the heatsink that sits on top of the GPU chip. Open it and check it out, as long as you don't detach the part that is screwed directly to the board you'll be fine.

Depends on your CPU/GPU. If you look at it from the side, you should see clearly whether it's on top of the processor chip or not: the chip is a square metal piece. In the link's case, the fan is on the side.

The thermal paste is between the GPU chip itself and the heatsink, so, as long as you don't remove that, you will not have to replace the thermal paste. The instructions on the link do not remove the heatsink, so you can follow them safely.

I used to clean my case about once a month, and was growing concerned that, as time passed, the fan was running for longer and longer periods, and with less demanding games. After inspecting the airflow while running the system, found out that the culprit was the GPU fan, which I hadn't noticed because it was covered by a big lid. Removing it showed me several years worth of dust around the heat sink, which was blocking most of the airflow. A good cleanup, and things were working as great as day one again!

I used to work for a non-governmental organization that made a living out of European, Spanish and Catalan grants for R&D. It went more or less like this: * Check grant programs by government agencies * Join up with other organizations with the same goal and write a grant proposal (normally these projects needed several names attached to it). Money requested would go in the 100K range all the way to millions per project, all budgeted accordingly. Whether you had the expertise to live up to this proposal, or even the capacity for it, was not really relevant * Get the money. Out of 10 applications we pushed, we would get 2 or 3, which will fill up the budget needed for another year. * Spend months, or up to 3 years for European FP7 projects, flying around Europe for endless meetings, producing documents requested by the granters, and maybe even some code related to the project. It was normal for the first project execution meeting to happen around 8 months after the budgets were accepted, and even then half of the project sponsors would not even show up, cashing the first round of money and disappearing. * Rinse and repeat. I think there's a way to dual boot Linux called ChrUbuntu, but I don't really see the motivation, since Crouton runs Linux at the same level as Chrome OS. Also, it can't break your system :)

This is the biggest amount of control you will hold in your entire life.

Because the plots in fiction stories are, most of the time, about people and their relationships, something that our mind remembers easily. We are around this type of information every day through our lives, and so we already have a nice framework, a lot of "pinnings" where to fixate these new facts. On the other hand, study materials present new ideas and thought structures. Since this is all new information, our minds do not have as much "pinnings" where these concepts can fit, and so it has a harder time assimilating them. This also means that, the more of an expert we are on a topic, the easier it is to remember new facts around it, since there are more relationships between the concepts we already know and the new ones we are learning.
